For the fourth year in a row, Bali’s biggest clean-up was held on February 15th with the help of 12,500 volunteers. Bali’s biggest clean-up not only aims at reducing plastic pollution on the island, but helps educate younger generations about keeping our environment healthy and sustainable for the future.
This year, ONE ISLAND ONE VOICE teamed up with locals, tourists, organizations and businesses to help collect trash in 150 locations across the island. 69SLAM was designated as the official coordinator in Berawa and the results were HUGE!
20 TONS of non-organic trash were collected within one hour! However, the most shocking part was that plastic items were still at the top of the list even though plastic bags, straws and Styrofoam packaging were banned last year in Balinese villages!
MAKING OCEANS PLASTIC FREE evaluates all of the waste collected and thanks to them, we can better understand the areas of improvement needed:
